research

Gabriel Dawe is an installation artist who is most known for his Plexus Series. Using sewing thread and hooks, Dawe weaves together a representation of the visible light spectrum. Layers of colored threads, which build up to form complex, overlapping shapes create leading lines throughout the space.
concept

The shape of light. This concept explores the depth and perception of the visible light spectrum.  This design is meant to imitate the experience of standing in different part of a space, viewing a Plexus installation.

The endpoints of the lines shift, resulting in varied shapes, compositions, and perspectives of light. These lines are contained within a framework, symbolizing the infinite ways to experience a single installation

design
While adhering to rational of my concept, I created iterations of the type layout for the design and communicate the event information clearly. While doing this I tested different ways to  Then I remade the assets in After Effects and began to make keyframes.

animation
In After Effects, I created a precomposition for a set of triangle lines, using the pen tool to draw 82 lines. I applied the 'Create Nulls from Path' feature to control each line's sides with null objects. I then parented the right-side nulls to a 'Right Side' null and the left-side nulls to a 'Left Side' null. Finally, I used scale and position keyframes on the y-axis to adjust the spreading and positioning of the lines.
